- Landscape Architecture
DMW assisted in the design and obtaining of permits for the 16.1 megawatt solar farm located on 100 acres of the Mount Saint Mary’s College campus in Emmitsburg, MD. In addition to the main array, a 1.6-megawatt solar power system was constructed to provide electricity to the University. This project required a Special Exception for the proposed use within an Agricultural zone to be approved by the Frederick County Board of Appeals. On-site wetlands and forest conservation areas were mapped and plotted to facilitate the maximum layout area possible for the solar arrays. One section of the array was designed and constructed with panels elevated 10 feet above grade to permit the continued use of the area as overflow parking during special events. DMW and the solar project owner worked closely with Frederick County to develop a SWM concept methodology that allowed the installation of the facility with minimal grading and a negligible impervious footprint.
